The third, but standalone, novel to the Little Brother series. Attack Surface.
attack surface: the set of points on the boundary of a system, a system element, or an environment where an attacker can try to enter, cause an effect on, or extract data from, that system, system element, or environment.https://csrc.nist.gov/glossary/term/attack_surface
This book breaks away from Marcus and follows the life of Masha. It isn’t necessary to read the first two books in order to keep up with this storyline, but I still recommend you do!
Masha started her journey from the first book. After the attack on the Bay Bridge in San Fransisco, teenager Masha wants to help catch the people responsible. She looks to using her computer skills to help the DHS (Department of Homeland Security) find out who the terrorists are. I mean, who wouldn’t, right?
She will later work for a company called Xoth, (doing many of the same thing our government does to us) and is in charge of tracking people, listening to phone calls, and invading others’ privacy. Working in Slovstokia, she is helping the authoritarian regime locate and suppress protestors.
Cory Doctorow has quickly became one of my favorite authors. Using things we can relate to in our real world, and writing stories about how those things could be, and are being used against us. Taking away our privacy in order to further silence us.
Take the time to look into what privacy means to you!
